Heart of Hanover

👋 Hi, Neighbor…

This isn't the type of email I want to be sending, but here we are.

One of my all-time favorite (and least favorite) sayings is, "When I make plans, the Universe laughs."

I relate to it so deeply that it's frustrating at times, but I'm old enough now to know it's not something worth getting hung up on. Instead of spending hours wishing things were different, I just accept it. Sometimes I plan to zig, but the Universe insists I zag... so I zag.

Anyway, on to the disappointing part.

Over the past several weeks, I've been dealing with some unexpected health issues that have made it increasingly difficult to work. What started as a super nasty upper respiratory infection (ew... summer colds) eventually morphed into a series of unrelated, but equally awful, gallbladder attacks.

I don't know if you've ever had one, but it feels a lot like what I'd imagine a heart attack feels like, so it's incredibly scary the first time it happens. I had one about two years ago, so this time it was less terrifying but just as painful.

After a quick and incredibly painful ultrasound, doctors confirmed that my gallbladder isn't functioning the way it should. There's evidence of sludge and a possible gallstone, but I'll know more after meeting with the surgeon.

So it's become very clear that I need to step away for a little while to focus on getting better.

I'll be meeting with Dr. Ugarte soon to discuss next steps, and until then, I'm taking my doctor's advice and giving myself permission to rest.

If you've been following along these last few weeks, you'll probably appreciate the irony in all of this.

I just told you about my goal to get out into Hanover more often this summer. After years of struggling to leave the comfort of my home, I finally felt ready to challenge myself to show up again.

Instead, my body had other plans.

‘Tis life, I suppose.

I'm disappointed because I was genuinely excited to explore more of Hanover alongside you this summer. But sometimes the best way to accomplish a goal is to be flexible enough to change the plan instead of forcing it.

Heart of Hanover isn't going anywhere.

I'm simply pressing pause so I can focus on my health. I'm hoping to spend some of this downtime working on the new website behind the scenes, but recovery comes first. If I have the energy, you may notice a few updates while I'm away. If not, the website will still be there when I'm back on my feet.

You probably won't be hearing much from me for the next two or three weeks.

When I return, we'll pick up right where we left off. I still have stories to tell, events to explore, and a half-written newsletter about third spaces waiting to be finished.

Thank you for reading, supporting this little newsletter, and giving me the grace to take care of myself.

I'll post updates on social media whenever I have something to share.

See you soon,
Megan 💜💜
