💌 A Letter From Megan
I’ve been struggling to write lately.
I have a lot to say, but I can’t find the words.
I wanted this space to stay positive.
I wanted to focus on the good.
But lately, that feels impossible.
Where is the good right now?
Renee Nicole Good, a wife, mother, and poet, is dead.
She was shot and killed by ICE on the streets of Minneapolis.
Where are the helpers?
Alex Pretti, an ICU nurse for veterans, is also dead.
He was a helper through and through.
He was shot and killed by ICE on the streets of Minneapolis.
If I’m honest, I don’t know where to go from here.
Everything feels heavy and wrong.
And it’s too much for one person to carry alone.
So if you can’t, that’s okay.
Take breaks.
Step away from the internet.
Rest your mind, body, and soul.
When you reach a point where you can’t carry it on your own, community can become a stabilizer. Lean on it. Asking for help is one of the most mature things you can do. And when you’re able, make a mental note to be that stabilizer for someone else.
Third places matter now more than ever.
The spaces where you are not producing, buying, or performing.
Just showing up.
Being seen.
Belonging.
This weekend’s picks are all about that.
Shared learning.
Shared laughter.
Shared music.
And remember, community works best when you give as much as you receive.

🎂 Happy Birthday, Andy!!
Andy Smith celebrated his birthday this week on January 27.
Andy has supported Heart of Hanover since the very first offer and was the first subscriber to hit three referrals. Recently, he invited me to a brainstorming session with fellow creative business owners and artists to talk seriously about revitalizing Hanover’s creative community.
Lots of strong ideas. Real momentum.
And yes, the luncheon food absolutely delivered.
Thanks for showing up early, often, and with intention, Andy.

Founding Supporters help cover the unglamorous pieces that make this newsletter possible, like software, hosting, and the coffee that fuels late-night editing.
Your support does more than keep this newsletter alive. It makes the next chapter possible.
Right now, Heart of Hanover’s next big project is about to begin. I’m building a centralized community events calendar. That means a new WordPress site, premium events plugins, hosting costs, and a lot of late nights relearning a platform I haven’t touched in over a decade.
I currently use an embedded Google calendar to show upcoming events, but it isn’t the easiest tool to use. The new community calendar will be sorted into categories and include pictures, have lots of amazing features like This calendar will make it easier for neighbors to find events, easier for organizations to promote them, and easier for all of us to show up.
If this newsletter has helped you feel more connected, more informed, or more rooted here, I would love your help funding what comes next.
If Heart of Hanover has helped you find a new favorite spot or feel a little more at home here, I would be honored if you joined them.

👋🏼 Until Next Time…
I’m not discounting the suffering of the past month. It’s real, and it matters.
But I want to remind us of one thing: nothing is permanent. Not the darkness. Not the fear. Not even this moment.
Life moves in cycles. The ebb and the flow keep going, whether we notice or not.
The question is this: will you be carried along by it, or will you step up and help shape what comes next?
XoXo,
Megan
