Before we dive into this week’s events, I want to pause and acknowledge heartbreaking news close to home. Three York County police officers were killed and two more critically wounded while serving our community.

I come from a family of law enforcement officers, firefighters, and EMTs, as many of us do. It’s never easy knowing the dangers they face each day, yet they step forward with a servant’s heart for the good of the community.

My thoughts are with the families affected today, their fellow officers, and all who risk their lives to keep us safe. Please keep them in your hearts today.

In moments of sorrow, it can feel even more important to hold onto the good around us. Gathering with neighbors, enjoying local traditions, and celebrating the small joys of our town are some of the ways we stay connected and strong. This weekend, Hanover offers plenty of opportunities to do just that — from fall festivals and live music to cozy self-care. Here are five events that remind us of the resilience and heart in our community.

Celebrate fall with Fat Bat’s Noktoberfest beer releases, Euro Bites food truck (bratwurst, schnitzel, strudel…yum), and all-day fun. Highlights include the .5K “run” at 1 PM, a stein-hold contest at 3 PM, live German tunes, vendors, and pretzel necklace-making.
