This Weekend’s Top 5 Picks: July 31 to August 3

Here are the best of the best. Full event details are listed chronologically below.

  1. 🎨 First Friday Art Walk

  2. 👟 Eighth Annual Tommy Laudani Delone Dash

  3. 🎺 Lyric Band of Hanover

  4. 🌻 U-Pick Flower Picking at Terra Farms

  5. 🏳️‍🌈 Queer Family Meet Up at Little Fox

📋 Event Details

Below, you’ll find more info about each event — now listed in the order they’re happening so it’s easier to plan your weekend. Even though they’re ranked in our Top 5, your favorite might be #3. (That’s the fun of it.)

🌻 U-Pick Flower Picking at Terra Farms

Friday & Saturday, 9 AM – 7 PM | Sunday, 1 PM – 7 PM
📍 Terra Farms U-Pick Field (Hanover, PA)
💐 Bouquets $25 to $97 • $5 entrance fee for non-pickers

Build your own bouquet, wander the rows of sunflowers and zinnias, and enjoy a peaceful escape just outside of town at Terra Farms. Their U-Pick flower field is open Friday through Sunday and offers a hands-on, soul-soothing way to welcome the weekend.

Whether you're creating a statement piece for your kitchen table or simply want to spend a quiet hour among the blooms, this is the spot.

Helpful tips:

  • Use Terra’s buckets while picking (you can bring your own to transport flowers home)

  • Wear comfortable shoes and bring sun protection

  • Pets and glass containers aren’t allowed in the field

  • Children under 12 must have an adult carry the clippers

This is a working farm with natural terrain and uneven ground, not a polished park. But it’s one of the loveliest places in town to slow down and soak up the season.

🎨 First Friday Art Walk: New Hanover Tradition

Friday, August 1 | 5 PM – 8 PM
📍 Multiple downtown businesses

Start your weekend with a stroll through Hanover’s newest monthly tradition. The First Friday Art Walk, organized by Little Fox Coffee & Books, transforms downtown businesses into pop-up galleries, featuring work from local artists and inviting the community to slow down, connect, and explore.

The inaugural walk includes:

  • 🦊 Little Fox Coffee & Books | 📍 125 Broadway
Showcasing Danielle Redden, an art historian and multidisciplinary artist known for painting, printmaking, and handcrafted gourd lamps.

  • 🖼️ Hanover Area Arts Guild | 📍 32 Carlisle Street
Hosting a “Meet the Artist” with Tim Gasper, plus an “Artist Attic” fundraiser where you can take home original member-contributed art in exchange for donations to scholarships or classroom supplies.

  • 📬 The Gallery at the Old Post Office | 📍 141 Broadway
Presenting a group exhibition on the theme of “Sustenance,” featuring nine regional artists: Dixie Brillhart, Matt Sheaffer, Margaret Ramage, Linda Stinnette, Sally Becker, Noel Wingard, Julie Lane, Andrew Smith, and Nancy Starr.

  • 🐍 The Serpent’s Key | 📍 28 Carlisle Street
Featuring the work of Kayla Medina, whose pieces blend mystical themes with vibrant creativity.

This free, family-friendly event will take place on the first Friday of every month. No tickets required. Just bring your curiosity and a comfy pair of shoes.

LGBTQIA+ families, this one’s for you. Join Little Fox Coffee & Books for their monthly Queer Family Meet Up, a cozy Saturday afternoon gathering where kids can color and play while grown-ups connect, chat, and build community.

🖍️ Coloring pages and crayons will be available (feel free to bring your own supplies too).

This event is free and family-friendly, but space is limited. Please RSVP to make sure everyone has a seat.

💌 A Note From Megan

I’ve been thinking about trying something new: sending two newsletters each week. You’ll still get your usual Friday edition, plus a shorter Thursday email that highlights the top 5 events coming up that weekend.

This is the first test run of that idea. The day might shift, or I may go back to sending everything on Fridays. Hard to say what works until we try, right?

That’s where you come in.

I’ll be including a quick poll in the next few newsletters to get your take. Your feedback will help me decide whether this new rhythm is helpful or just... extra noise.

Prefer to talk it out? I’d love to hear your thoughts. Just reply to this email or reach me directly at [email protected].

For now, you’ll still get your regular Friday email. But if all goes well, you can also expect a short, events-only email every Thursday so you have plenty of time to plan your weekend.

Thanks for being here. See you tomorrow.

XoXo,
Megan

P.S. Don’t forget to complete the poll!! ⬇⬇

How do you prefer to receive local events?

Do you like getting this Thursday events email, or would you rather keep everything in one Friday issue? Thanks in advance for voting!
